Transporting a Pet Bird Can Be Stress Free
Feb 16th
If you own a pet bird then it might be best to contact experienced pet couriers before taking it on a long journey if you have never had any experience. If you really have to carry your feathered friend yourself, then read on below for some ideas.
You might think that only birds in the wild have to put up with all sorts of different hazards, and in the safety of your own home there is little stress for the animal. This is not entirely true; birds have to be treated carefully, especially when they are being moved from one place to another.
Before setting off on a journey you will need to get certain things ready for the journey and these will include a cardboard container, a cage, some towels, bird food, water and playthings.
Bundling any pet into the back of a car can be quite stressful so planning is essential. The bird must be kept calm and safe for the whole trip and there is a different way of treating the bird for a short and long journey.
The most appropriate way to transport the bird on a short road trip is to put it into a dark box. The use of a cardboard box or a small pet transporter purchased at the local pet shop will be suitable for this particular type of journey. The cardboard container should have holes pierced in it before the bird is placed inside.
Make sure you remove any obstacles or toys from the container before the trip commences. Place a small, dry cloth in the base of the box, as well as some of the original bedding from its normal cage.
The cage should not be too big, as it will stop the bird from being thrown around in the event of any jolting motion in the car. You certainly will not want it to get frightened and flap its wings. For such a short trip, you do not need to worry about food or water.
Making preparations for road travel for a long distance is different from a short travel. Buy a small cage and take out all of the perches. Playthings that can be attached to the sides of the cage are permitted, but they must not swing and sway around freely and damage your bird.
Fill up the water and water bowls to half full, and place a small cloth on the base of the cage for the bird to balance. Bring an extra towel to drape over the cage, to make it a darker, calmer environment. When you stop for bathroom and meal breaks, uncover the cage and allow your bird to look around. Talk with him throughout the trip so he hears a familiar voice.
Carry some containers of water to fill up the water bowl as needed. Although the bird will not eat a lot while travelling, bring along an additional container of bird food too. Non-perishable snacks will enable some interaction along the way.
Put your bird’s cage in a safe spot in your car. You do not want it falling off the seat. Setting it in a place with a seat belt or wedging it between heavier items in your vehicle is the best thing to do.
Which Dog Breeds Are More Likely to Cause Injury?
Feb 14th
It is a well known fact that some dog breeds are more dangerous to own than others. In Michigan, legislation has been passed to reduce the amount of pit bulls that are in the state. This got me wondering if pit bulls are really the only dog we need to be concerned about. Just about any breed of dog is capable of a Michigan dog bite, but I found that smaller breeds are actually more likely to bite. This surprised me because the logic usually is the more dangerous a dog looks, the more dangerous it must actually be. Some other dogs that are considered more dangerous than average include rottweilers, German shepherds, huskies, great danes, and saint bernards. Another important fact to consider is the overall temperament of the dog and how the dog has been raised. If a dog has been treated poorly or even trained to attack, this dog will be much more likely to cause injury to a human.

The Startup Cost of a Hamster
Dec 30th
The price of a hamster can vary. It would depend on whom you get it from, say it be a breeder or a pet store, which pet store you get if from, what kind of hamster you get and the overall health of the little critter. Sometimes you will find that people have accidentally bred hamsters, and will give them away for free, making it the cheapest way to obtain a hamster.
However, certain stores seem to sell them at lower cost than the leading competitors. Say you want a Robo Dwarf Hamster. A breed such as this one would cost you a considerable amount of more money than a Fancy Hamster would in certain stores.
The overall price range of hamsters would most likely be around $2-$20 dollars. You might want to try to include the housing costs as this is going to add onto the overall cost of the hamster as well. That would include their food, food bowls, bedding, water container, the cage and accessories that should include a wheel, if you want yourself a happy little hamster.
If you want to purchase accessories on top of the hamster, be prepared to pay more for the accessories. For example, a starter cage usually ranges around $25. The bedding you can find cheap at places like Walmart for around $7, and the food will come around to about $5 again depending on the choices and budget you get for yourself. The bowls and feeders run around $2-$3+. But all in all, having a hamster is fairly inexpensive and will provide you will lots of entertainment in the times to come.
As you can see, plan on setting aside $50 to as much as $100 to get started with your hamster. To get more information on how much does a hamster cost as well as what other people are paying, be sure to read more into my guides at Howmuchisit.
